Biography
I am a sociocultural anthropologist whose research focuses on infrastructure, ecology, and urban space. My first ethnographic research project examined how people in the Kyrgyz Republic acquire and maintain their homes and whether and how those homes connect to systems of electricity, water, and heat. My current project explores how environmental activists in the Kyrgyz Republic engage with problems including air pollution, rising temperatures, and limited water. I'm interested in practices of collaboration and connection.
Prior to joining the Dartmouth faculty in 2022, I taught first-year writing courses at Duke University. I also worked as a teacher and/or teacher trainer in the Kyrgyz Republic, Yemen, and Crimea.
In addition to a Ph.D. in socio-cultural anthropology, I have a B.A. in Art History and an Ed.M. in Arts in Education. My teaching and anthropological research often engage with arts practices.
