Policy on Transfer and Pre-Matriculation Credits
Writing Program policies on transfer and pre-matriculation credits for WRIT and First-Year Seminar courses.
Credit Transfer Policy
Transfer Credit
Students who have taken courses equivalent to WRIT 2/3/5 at other institutions as "an integral part of an officially defined undergraduate Arts and Sciences curriculum" may potentially receive transfer credit for these courses. While the First-Year Seminar requirement is waived for transfer students, similar courses may also be eligible for transfer credit.
Pre-Matriculation Credit
The Writing Program does not accept pre-matriculation credit for incoming matriculated first-year students for WRIT 2/3/5 or First-Year Seminar courses. These courses are crucial components of the First Year Experience and work together as a structured course sequence. The WRIT course serves as a prerequisite for the First-Year Seminar and enables students to build the skills, capacities, and habits of mind necessary to engage in their work during the seminar and future intellectual work at Dartmouth.
