Discover contra dance basics to bring to a dance hall near you!

Local contra and English country folk dance caller David Millstone leads kids and their adults through simple barn dances accompanied by local dance band Blind Squirrel.

Millstone, a former elementary school teacher, has taught country dancing, sword dancing and Morris dancing to students. He has called dances throughout the United States and Canada and has made six calling tours of Denmark and he has led dance tours to Prague and the Czech Republic. He is renowned throughout the Upper Valley for his calling skills.

Blind Squirrel regularly performs at the Norwich Farmers Market in Norwich, Vermont, and at dances from New London, New Hampshire, to Thetford, Vermont.

Swing your partner and do-si-do in this fun-filled family dance. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. This workshop is best suited for youth ages 7 and up, but children 5 or younger can participate with adult assistance.
