Craft a moving image and explore the magic of cinematic storytelling!
Craft a moving image and explore the magic of cinematic storytelling!
Join us for an interactive workshop led by Junction Arts & Media's Cedar O'Dowd. Participants will create a phenakistiscope, one the earliest forms of media animation. Spinning the disc creates the illusion of movement through a series of images, letting you bring your drawings to life with a simple twist of the wrist. This activity blends creativity with science to turn your sketch into a story!
Next, enjoy a selection of Pixar short films, known for their heartwarming stories, imaginative worlds and unforgettable characters. These shorts continue to inspire audiences and storytellers around the world.
11:00 am: Join us in the Nearburg Gallery and Art Forum to make your own animated image in the form of a phenakistoscope.
11:30 am: Head into the Loew Auditorium for the film screening.
Signing up is encouraged but not required.
This workshop is best suited for youth ages 5 and up, but younger children can participate with adult assistance.
