I am an interdisciplinary historian of the United States and a writing instructor at Dartmouth College. My reserach examines the interesctions of cultural history, violence, and empire, with a focus on the linkages between global United States history and Native North America. Prior to Dartmouth I taught in the American Studies department at Williams College, I was the Elihu Rose Scholar of Modern Military History and a Faculty Fellow in the History department at New York University, and I completed my MA and PhD in American Culture at the University of Michigan. I am the author of Indian Wars Everywhere: Colonial Violence and the Shadow Doctrines of Empire (University of California Press, 2023), a contributor to At War: The Military and American Culture in the Twentieth Century and Beyond (Rutgers University Press, 2018), and the author of articles in American Quarterly and the Pacific Historical Review. I recently had the privilege of contributing to the First America podcast hosted by journalist Rebecca Nagle, where I discussed early American history and wars with Native nations. I am currently working on two reserach projects: the first examines the lingering effects of "cluster bomb" munitions during the Cold War, and the second interrogates debates about the limits and excesses of warfare in United States foreign policy during the 20th and 21st centuries - I currently have an articled titled "The Wounded Knee Massacre and the Limits of "Revisionist" History" under review with Western Historical Quarterly from this project.
